Talking Points about GCCCD

OUR ROLE:

As an employee of GCCCD, we represent the District when we are at community events and meetings. It is our responsibility to be able to briefly and accurately describe the District. Below are talking points that can be easily memorized to help concisely explain our purpose to the general public.

TALKING POINTS:

  • Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges provide education and training for about 25,000 students in East County. (Grossmont 16,000; Cuyamaca 9,000)

  • We provide an affordable and convenient alternative for students seeking to start their college degrees before transferring to a 4-year school; students seeking an associate degree; and lifelong learners and employees seeking to sharpen their job skills.

  • One out of three adults in East County has taken a class at Grossmont or Cuyamaca college.

  • Our colleges and programs are highly regarded. Grossmont is noted for its nursing/allied health program and law enforcement academy; and Cuyamaca has renowned programs in ornamental horticulture and automotive technology.

  • We play an important economic role in East County. A study found that the college district contributes $1.1 billion to the East County economy each year in district spending, student and alumni spending, and increased earning power of our graduates.
