A message from the Chancellor: #Giving Tuesday
12/02/2019 - I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and had a chance to spend time with your family and friends! Now the busy holiday season officially begins (although some decorations were put up weeks ago). Seven years ago, #GivingTuesday was started as a response to the commercialization of the season. It began as a day for anyone, anywhere to give, and it’s grown into the biggest giving movement in the world. It's celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, and through social media and collaboration, #GivingTuesday inspires millions of people to give to causes that matter to them. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond the day and touches everyone.

10/05/2019 - Last week’s visits by the peer evaluation accreditation teams to our campuses gave us the opportunity to act and feel like proud parents!

Response to Inaccurate Social Media Posts
09/27/2019 - Some of you may have seen social media posts alleging that a religious group is aggressively soliciting female students at Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges. This rumor has been investigated by the Sheriff’s Department on our campuses, and there is no evidence to support it. Outside groups are asked to check in with Student Affairs when visiting campus, and Grossmont College has no record of this organization being on campus in the last several months. Cuyamaca College has no reports of the group at that campus.

I sincerely hope you had the opportunity to rest and recharge your energy reserves for what is sure to be an exciting year for our Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District. With an expanded College Promise program, accreditation site visits, and the selection of a new chancellor – we have a lot going on this fall.

Commencement: 2,699 Reasons for Celebration
06/11/2019 - Our colleges awarded 5,652 degrees and certificates to 2,699 graduates, the largest graduating class in the District’s history! Over the last decade, our graduate numbers grew by 78%, while the number of degrees and certificates they’ve earned rose a remarkable 178%. What makes this even more remarkable is that during this same time, our overall enrollment declined by over 13%.

May 2019

Classified School Employees Week
05/17/2019 - The vital role that our classified professionals serve in our District can’t be overstated. I want to express my gratitude and respect for the multitude of ways they strive to make our institution such a fantastic place to work and learn.

A Message from the Chancellor: An Extraordinary, Uncertain Time
05/14/2019 - The May Revision budget that Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled last week reflects what has been described as an extraordinary time in California’s fiscal history. The economy is in “remarkably good shape,” according to the Legislative Analyst’s Office. The Governor’s $213.5 billion revised budget increased 2% over his January proposal, in large part due to short-term state revenues that came in higher, if slower than expected.

April 2019

A message from the Chancellor: Battling darkness with light
04/29/2019 - Our hearts weep for the victims in the shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue on Saturday, who were attacked as they were celebrating the last day of Passover. Our minds ache to comprehend another senseless act, another hate crime, this time in San Diego County just a few miles north of us. But as Rabbi Goldstein said, we cannot let those driven by hatred and ignorance prevail. We must continue to strive to embody the fundamentals of our district’s mission of light and hope: to provide a welcoming, inclusive, diverse, and equitable learning and working environment for all.

January 2019

A Message from the Chancellor: 2019-20 State Budget Proposal
01/14/2019 - Just four days after taking office, California Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled his Proposed 2019-20 State Budget of $209 billion, a 4.5% increase over the final budget from his predecessor, Jerry Brown. Although his proposed budget includes billions of dollars for new initiatives in early childhood education, healthcare and wildfire defense, Newsom is continuing Brown’s efforts to pay down debt and build the state’s “Rainy Day Fund” to help protect California against potential economic downturns.
